Enhanced Patient Safety

Studies have shown that failure to maintain an accurate count of surgical instruments and consumables during surgical procedures is very common in the healthcare industry. The ORLocate™ system significantly enhances patient safety in the operating room while supporting the entire OR team in maintaining an accurate count of both surgical instruments and consumables using the RFID technology.  By reducing counting discrepancies the ORLocate™ significantly reduces post-operative complications. Patients do not have to undergo re-operations, unnecessary X-rays or prolonged anesthesia. The system is in place in order to assure the patient’s safety as a top priority.

The ORLocate™ system uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), a proven and safe technology adhering to all international standards and protocols, and is widely being used in healthcare environments.

Increased Tray Accuracy and Completeness
By using ORLocate™ RFID technology in the SPD department, both the SPD technician and the operating room staff can be assured that the instrument sets will be delivered with significantly improved tray accuracy and completeness.

Free Up Nursing Time for Patient Care
According to study-based literature, 1 out of every 8 surgical procedures incurs time loss over counting discrepancies of surgical instruments and consumables. By providing the OR nursing team with an  automated system that tracks, monitors and counts all surgical instruments and consumables within the OR,   the ORLocate™ system can prevent unnecessary counting discrepancies, saving an average of 16 minutes and freeing valuable patient care time.

Decrease the Use of X-Rays
In the event of a counting discrepancy within the operating room, the ORLocate™ system is equipped with a mobile locator capable of   locating the retained surgical instrument and/or sponge in the OR. Using this mobile locator will save the patient unnecessary X-ray radiation, which is currently being used in the ORs.

Recall Management on Instrument Level

By having accurate and real-time accessible information, the ORLocate™ system supports recalls on an instrument level deriving from suspected infections, maintenance repairs, etc. The instrument-level information enables the hospital administration to link a specific patient population with a unique instrument identified.
